Community-Supported Agriculture  (CSAs)

THRIVE (www.thriveoregon.org) is a not-for-profit organization actively working to help build a healthy local economy of independent, locally owned businesses that are socially, environmentally and financially sustainable. For more information, call Wendy at 488-7272.

THRIVE offers this description of CSAs:

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a convenient way to buy your food from local farmers. You get a weekly box of farm-fresh produce during the growing season. When you join, you contribute to the farm's yearly operating budget by purchasing a share of the season's harvest in advance. By making this commitment ahead of time, CSA shareholders join the farmer in assuming the costs, risks and rewards of growing that season’s crops. Shareholders help pay for seeds, supplies, labor, water, equipment maintenance, and other costs. In return, the farm provides fresh, nutritious vegetables and sometimes specialty products throughout the growing season.
