Tom Ward Teaches Permaculture: "Ecological Constraints and Opportunities in the Bear Creek Basin" A free talk and a six-weekend Permaculture Design Course * * * * * The
free
talk:
Tom Ward will speak on the
carrying capacity of the Bear Creek drainage basin and the
opportunities we have to move toward more sustainable living in our
local
bioregion. Combining information about the local limits of soil, water, agricultural space and air-shed and the history of ecological managements and their long-term effects, Tom will draw connections to ways we can manage our local resources to create a transition to a way of life in balance with nature. The talk will be held at
Science Works
on Monday, December 7th, from 7 to 9 p.m. * * * * * The Permaculture Design Course: "Cultivating Community Resilience" This is the full permaculture
certificate course, along with lots of local knowledge and
applications. Participants will learn to design a basic homestead and
apply permaculture principles and patterns to any other design project.
We will learn whole systems design principles and practical techniques
for living in ecological balance with the earth. The
progress of Transition Town Ashland will
be
highlighted, and we will discuss and explore the mandates of
sustainability.
The course will be held at
the Wilderness Charter School,
on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 to 5, on these dates in 2010: Jan 16-17 / Jan 30-31 / Feb 14-15 / Feb 27-28 / March 13-14 / March 27-28 The cost of the course is
$500 ($450 before December 13).
